God Sent His Son

Galatians 4:4

About the Sermon

We’re used to hearing, “Jesus is the reason for the season.” True enough. But what is the reason for Jesus? Galatians 4:4–5 is a pregnant verse that addresses this question: “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.” In this first sermon in a four-part series we explore the phrase, “God sent forth his Son.” What does it mean that God has a son, and that he sent his Son? Why do we need this kind of savior in the first place?

About the Series

It’s easy to feel forgotten during the holidays. But God does not forget his people. “When the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son” (Galatians 4:4–5). Christ came at just the right time and in just the right way—fully human, fully God, fully obedient even to the point of death. He is a perfect deliverer for sinners like us. In this four-part series we walk through each phrase in Galatians 4:4–5, a pregnant line of Scripture, to open to the Bible’s story, the mystery of Christ’s coming, and what it means for us.
