Jesus, Son of the Woman

Genesis 3:15; Hebrews 2:5-18

About the Sermon

With this sermon we begin a four-part series unpacking Peter's famous words, "You are the Christ" (Mark 8:29). Peter didn't fully understand what that meant, but we do. In fact, understanding what this means is important for our salvation and for our Christian walk. We begin our series with a sermon on the humanity of Christ, or the necessity of the incarnation. Why exactly was it necessary for the Son of God to become man in order that we might be saved from sin and death?

About the Series

In Mark 8, the Apostle Peter correctly identifies Jesus with the famous words, “You are the Christ” (8:29). Peter believed Jesus was the Christ promised in the Old Testament Scriptures. But Peter did not fully understand the mission of the Messiah, who would come to suffer for his people. In this short series, we draw from Old Testament Scriptures to explore the fullness of that confession, a confession on which the church of the Lord Jesus is built.
