Jesus, Son of God

Isaiah 63:15-64:4

About the Sermon

Two sermons ago we began a series inspired by Peter's famous words, “You are the Christ” (Mark 8:29). In the first, we heard that in order to rescue us, Jesus had to be human. In the second, we considered Jesus as “Son of Man” from Daniel 7. With this sermon, Dan Cruver will take us to Isaiah 63:15–64:4 to deepen our understanding of what it means for Jesus to be “Son of God.” If you are hungry for good news this Christmas season, our text delivers it in a surprising way.

About the Series

In Mark 8, the Apostle Peter correctly identifies Jesus with the famous words, “You are the Christ” (8:29). Peter believed Jesus was the Christ promised in the Old Testament Scriptures. But Peter did not fully understand the mission of the Messiah, who would come to suffer for his people. In this short series, we draw from Old Testament Scriptures to explore the fullness of that confession, a confession on which the church of the Lord Jesus is built.
