The purpose of our electives is to engage and equip the people of our church with the Word for the roles God has given them. The classes survey a variety of doctrines or topics, helping us to grow in our walk with Jesus and in our relationships with each other. We’re eager to dive into these studies with you.
During the adult Electives, children, middle school, and high school students meet according to their grades.

Overview: The bewildered and heartbroken disciples passionately spoke about their crucified Rabbi while on the road to Emmaus. Our Lord graciously met them and explained from Moses and all the Prophets the glorious gospel that they were witnessing. Their hearts were set ablaze while Jesus connected the dots of the Hebrew Bible. The wonderful truths that we hold so dear and for which we are willing to lay down our lives begin in the Old Testament. Come learn how to share your faith from the first two-thirds of your Bible by which the apostles and Jesus used to transform the world.

Overview: The ordinary moments of family life are more spiritually significant than we often realize. Waking up, sharing meals, playing, working, and going to bed are not just logistical routines to get through; they are quietly forming the hearts of everyone in your home. In this class, we will explore how the habits of your household shape your children, your marriage, and yourself as a disciple of Christ. We’ll examine the Scriptures, looking at practical, gospel-rooted rhythms for daily life and examine how even the most mundane moments can become means of grace. Join us as we seek to be intentional about the small everyday things, trusting that faithful habits over time move us toward forming faithful families.

Overview: Have you ever written a letter to someone you never met? What did you say? What would you say? What would give rise to an occasion where you believed you had to write to someone you’d never met “face to face.” In Paul’s letter to Colossae, we see all these questions come to the fore. There was false teaching threatening the church in Colossae, and Paul needed to act fast! His words would prove vital in keeping this young congregation from slipping into the errors in which so many had already fallen prey. Join us for this 3-week class as we seek to cherish God’s Word both privately and corporately in learning to read the Bible “one-to-one.” We hope to see you for this time of rich instruction and prayerful fellowship!

Overview: “Why did God become man? Why, having become man, did he die? Why, having died, did he die the accursed death of the cross?” Renowned scholar, professor, and pastor John Murray opens his book Redemption: Accomplished and Applied with these questions. Christ’s work on the cross is the defining feature of the gospel. Without it, there is no gospel and without it, mankind stands forever condemned. Join us for this class as we dive into what exactly happened on the cross. We pray you leave this short 3-week survey strengthened and emboldened in him who went to the cross and accomplished your redemption.

Overview: Our Lord Jesus commanded disciples to be baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Baptism is a beautiful, public profession of one’s faith in the Gospel and their inclusion in the Church. It’s also the way the church publicly identifies the disciples she makes in obedience to Jesus. If you have believed in Jesus and need to be baptized—or if you just want to learn more about what we believe about baptism—the baptism class is for you. In this class we will answer three questions: What is baptism? Who should be baptized? How do we practice baptism at Heritage? You’ll be given helpful resources and spend time with a Heritage pastor to learn about baptism and next steps for getting baptized at Heritage.
