6-Week Electives

October 12 - November 16, 2025

About Electives

The purpose of our electives is to engage and equip the people of our church with the Word for the roles God has given them. The classes survey a variety of doctrines or topics, helping us to grow in our walk with Jesus and in our relationships with each other. We’re eager to dive into these studies with you.

During the adult Electives, children, middle school, and high school students meet according to their grades.

Biblical Studies in Ezekiel

Mark

Overview: Ezekiel has earned a reputation of being one of the more challenging books to interpret in all the canon. Jerome (342-420 AD), the man credited as the first to translate the Bible out of its original language, said of Ezekiel, “The beginning and ending of Ezekiel, the third of the four, are involved in so great obscurity that like the commencement of Genesis they are not studied by the Hebrews until they are thirty years old. The book is complex, but the patient reader encounters the unveiled glory of God, a harsh call to repentance, and promise of the New Covenant in the coming Messiah. Come join us as we look to understand this major prophecy and seek the glory of God in His salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Doctrine of the Holy Spirit

Jude

Overview: The Holy Spirit is likely the most under-studied person of the Triune God. His presence is mysterious, and His work can seem difficult to place. Who is He? What does He do? How does He contribute to the Triune God’s work of saving a people unto Himself? In this class, we’ll address these questions and many more. We’ll dive into the Scriptures to grasp who the Spirit is and look at the work He does. Join us as we investigate God’s word to understand how His Spirit works for the glory of the Triune God in redeeming His people!

Gospel Arguments for God

Making the Biblical Case for God’s Image

Overview: Introducing a friend or neighbor to the good news of Jesus Christ often includes conversations around the existence of God. A typical roadblock toward faith is the question, “Does God actually exist?” Unfortunately, in those situations of defending our Christian faith, or apologetics, we often focus on winning the argument while the gospel takes a back seat. In this class, participants will learn to use apologetics as a tool to help them better explain the hope of the gospel and the glory of Jesus Christ. We’ll explore the classical arguments for God’s existence each week by defining an argument, considering typical refutations, and explaining how the argument reveals the wonders of the gospel. Come grow your confidence and knowledge in approaching your lost neighbors with God’s truth.

Train Up a Child

James

Overview: Whether you are a parent, a grandparent, a friend of a parent, or would like to be a parent one day, the Scriptures have words for you about parenting. Our children are precious, full of fun and fear. Yet they are also prone to wander, carrying a sinful nature all their own. In response, our children need patient, gracious training in order to address the spiritual condition of their hearts. Like us, they need the power of the gospel to not merely transform behavior but to confront the wretchedness they’ve inherited. And like us, they need to see that their only hope of rescue is a loving Father who gave up His own Son in order to do just that. Please join us in understanding how the gospel trains us to train our children to love and glorify God so that they will one day shepherd and train their children’s hearts.
