The purpose of our electives is to engage and equip the people of our church with the Word for the roles God has given them. The classes survey a variety of doctrines or topics, helping us to grow in our walk with Jesus and in our relationships with each other. We’re eager to dive into these studies with you.
During the adult Electives, children, middle school, and high school students meet according to their grades.

Overview: Membership in a local church is vital for the growth of every follower of Christ. This class explores the biblical foundations for church membership along with the specifics of being a member at Heritage. We will walk through our Confession of Faith, Membership Covenant, and other key aspects of life at Heritage. Anyone interested in learning more about Heritage or pursuing membership is invited to join us. Attendance is required to become a member at Heritage.

Overview: Three hundred years ago, a German pastor and scholar proclaimed, “Scripture is the foundation of the Church and the Church is the guardian of Scripture.” In this Reading for Joy class, we’ll work through the short letter of Jude and consider a man deeply passionate about the truth as he calls for doctrinal purity. Join us as we seek to cherish God’s word both privately and corporately in learning to read the Bible “one-to-one.” We hope to see you for this time of rich instruction and prayerful fellowship!

Overview: Prayer in our lives should be more than a formal, compartmentalized approach to God. Rather our prayer lives should involve all of us all the time. There are many passages in Scripture that address prayer, including direct instruction from Jesus himself. If we’re honest, we could look into our own lives and see prayer is something we don’t get right all the time. But God gives us grace to understand in his Word how we should commune with him with all of us all the time. Communion with all of God requires an intentional pursuit of the humanity and deity of Christ. Join us as we consider how to pray to our Father in the power and humility of the Spirit.

Overview: The church today owes a debt to many men whom the Lord used to usher in a theology that is consistent with his Word. Some theologians, along with their ideas, failed to stand the test of time as they were not faithful to the Word of God. Others, however, proved to withstand millennia of changing cultures and worldviews. This class looks to the earliest of these men in discovering their lives, thoughts, and contributions which continue to impact the church today. Join us as we examine these saints so as to see the glory of God in preserving his teaching through early men willing to fight for his truth.

Overview: Some have taken the “mission” of the church and extended it to almost anything. Soup kitchens, clothing drives, digging wells in foreign lands, and even social justice issues have risen to the top as the church’s “mission.” But what do the Scriptures teach concerning the church’s mission? How do we as a local body tackle the charge that the Lord has given us in his Word? This class will answer the question of what the church’s mission is and the focus and intentionality needed to accomplish it successfully.
