Women’s Bible Study

Women’s Bible Study

Heritage women, we invite you to join your sisters for our fall Bible study through the book of Habakkuk. Though only three chapters long, this Old Testament book overflows with plagues, violence, and pleas for deliverance. Why does God ever allow evil to flourish? That’s what Habakkuk seeks to understand, and as he waits for the Lord, he discovers that God is faithful to deliver his people from every trouble in his own way and time. During this 10-week study, starting on Tuesday, September 10, we will use Lydia Brownback’s study guide Habakkuk, Learning to Live By Faith.

There are two study times available—Tuesday mornings at 9:15 and Tuesday evenings at 7:00. Childcare through age 5 will be available for the morning study only. Registration for the study is taking place in the South Lobby on Sundays, August 25, September 1, and September 8, or you may sign up online. Please note that if you sign up online, you must stop by the table in the South Lobby to pick up your study materials prior to the first study on September 10. The cost is $12 which includes the study guide and ESV Scripture journal. This study is open to women and young women middle school age and up.

We look forward to growing in faith together and hope that you will join us!

About Book Clubs

Join us for our 2024 Summer Book Clubs! The purpose of these Book Clubs is twofold: to encourage you in your spiritual growth by introducing you to theologically rich books and to deepen your relationships in our church by connecting you to other women interested in discussing those books in community.

We are offering three book clubs in the categories of Theology, Christian Living, and Christian Biography. Be sure to pay close attention to the details of location and time before signing up as each of these clubs will meet at different times and places. A Day's Journey:

Stories of Hope and Death-Defying Joy

Overview: Tim Keesee spent years crisscrossing the globe, documenting the gospel’s advance in regions of war and persecution through his writing and films. But double blows from terminal cancer diagnoses in 2019 and 2021 brought his travels to a halt.

In A Day’s Journey, Tim takes up his pen to write dispatches from a smaller, more intimate world. He writes of Christian brothers and sisters who have taught him so much about a day well spent: the way they work and worship, the way they pray and sing, the way they love their neighbors and their enemies, even when beaten black and blue for the sake of Christ.

In this book you’ll have the privilege to walk with Tim through days of pain and hard questions, but also days of grace, wonder, and death-defying joy. Poignant, inspiring, and beautifully written, these stories model the courage we need, the joy we have, the gospel we love, the cross we bear, and the hope we embrace until faith becomes sight.

Author: Tim Keesee is an author, a filmmaker, and the founder of Frontline Missions International (FMI), a ministry that advances the gospel in the world’s difficult places. He has traveled to over one hundred countries, reporting on the church from the former Iron Curtain countries to war-torn Bosnia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Tim is also the executive producer of the Dispatches from the Front film series, and his writings appear in Desiring God, Tabletalk, and Challies.com. He and his wife Debbie live in South Carolina.

The Holiness of God

What It Is, How to Train It, and Loving Those Who Differ

Overview: Central to God’s character is the quality of holiness. Yet, even so, most people are hard-pressed to define what God’s holiness precisely is. Many preachers today avoid the topic altogether because people today don’t quite know what to do with words like “awe” or “fear.” Dr. R.C. Sproul, in this classic work, puts the holiness of God in its proper and central place in the Christian life. He paints an awe-inspiring vision of God that encourages Christians to become holy just as God is holy. Once you encounter the holiness of God, your life will never be the same.

Author: Dr. R.C. Sproul (1939–2017) was founder of Ligonier Ministries, first minister of preaching and teaching at Saint Andrew’s Chapel in Sanford, Fla., first president of Reformation Bible College, and executive editor of Tabletalk magazine. His radio program, Renewing Your Mind, is still broadcast daily on hundreds of radio stations around the world and can also be heard online. He was author of more than one hundred books, including The Holiness of GodChosen by God, and Everyone’s a Theologian. He was recognized throughout the world for his articulate defense of the inerrancy of Scripture and the need for God’s people to stand with conviction upon His Word.

In His Image:

10 Ways God Calls Us to Reflect His Image

Overview: Sometimes we ask What is God’s will for my life? when we should really be asking Who should I be? The Bible has an answer: Be like the very image of God.

By exploring ten characteristics of who God is—holy, loving, just, good, merciful, gracious, faithful, patient, truthful, and wise—this book helps us understand who God intends for us to be. Through Christ, the perfect reflection of the image of God, we will discover how God’s own attributes impact how we live, leading to freedom and purpose as we follow his will and are conformed to his image.

Author: Jen Wilkin is an author and Bible teacher from Dallas, Texas. She has organized and led studies for women in home, church, and parachurch contexts. An advocate for Bible literacy, her passion is to see others become articulate and committed followers of Christ, with a clear understanding of why they believe what they believe, grounded in the Word of God.

Hostesses: Deanna Moore and Jen Gerber

Time and Dates: Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m., June 4, 11, 25, July 9, 16, 23

Confessio: A Night of Hymns and Songs with The Gettys

Confessio: A Night of Hymns and Songs with The Gettys

We’re excited to once again be hosting Keith & Kristyn Getty along with their team for an evening of worship and praise on Friday, March 11, for their brand new hymns tour: Confessio: A diary of hymns and songs that underscore the Gettys’ Irish American journey. This collection is a ‘confessio’ in word and note of the musical and spiritual roots that continue to call us to the ancient paths. “For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground… Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows… and with his wounds we are healed” (Isaiah 53). The Gettys have written or arranged many of the songs we love singing together each Lord’s Day, and we are eager to sing along with them. Purchase your tickets and join us! Special pricing for all tickets is available through February 11.
